A Leprechaun’s Gaze, Part 2

.

He bade me, “Come! You need a rest!”

He drew his flask, “Please, be my guest!”

My guard withdrawn, my throat gone dry

My pity for the man ran high

.

The sun had yet begun to set

So down I sat with no regret

Refreshing wine he passed to me

I gave a toast to harmony

.

I asked him how he knew this place

A smile flashed across his face

Wrinkles deepened to disguise

The teary trails of rainbow eyes

.

I waited long for his reply

The hours slowly crept on by

I could not let him get away

Though night be setting on the day

.

“What are you thinking?”, I decried

He seemed to take it all in stride

I thought him dead, but then he rose

Brushing the cobwebs off his nose

.

Padding pockets, feeling around

His fingers dug until they found

A quaint little book, looking quite old

Containing stories never told

.

As he began to tell his tale

“Reflections On The Wishing Well”

The elderberries cast their spell

Into the deepest sleep I fell

  1. Hi Keith,

This is developing into a wonderful story! I really saw myself sitting at the
campfire and you, playing the guitar, chanting this tale :)

Hope it will have more than 3 entries, you have me hooked!

    Thank you so much, Mieke!

I’m making this up on the run.
Halfway through the third lap now,
and I still can’t see the finish line.
But I know the deadline is March 17.
Part 4 is now a distinct possibility.

    Thanks for stopping by, and
thanks for the comment, too! UT

  3. Why a deadline, March 17?

Have you entered some kind of contest?

    Formula 1 racing? :)

  4. Lol, I spelled my name wrong :)

  5. me2watson Says:

    Lol, Mieke!

I did a woops, too, St. Patrick’s Day is the 17th,
so It’ll be done by the 16th. I’ll need that lucky charm. UT

  6. The elderberries cast their spell

  7. me2watson Says:

Can I get you a drink, Adriana?

  8. me2watson Says:

    For some of you Boomers…

Remember “Homeward Bound”, by Simon & Garfunkel?

I kept time to that song when I couldn’t afford to focus on this.

  9. Elderberries are definitely potent.

  10. me2watson Says:

    I really wouldn’t know , Ed.

    Are they like huckleberries?
As in—they get you up and running
    first thing in the morning?

Do you, too, have bears in them woods?

  11. No we don’t have huckleberries and badgers do for bears

There is a drug in elderberries that makes you sweat and thus they have been used to shift a cold or flu or just as the basis for a rather potent home-made wine. Alcohol plus that drug could be lethal!!

I remember well my Grandpa in full swig, cold flannel compresses draped upon his fevered brow, when Mother saw that, even he, had overdone it :) )

  12. me2watson Says:

Waayow, Ed! Datz sum kinda insad infermation yuz have darr!

I had dem darr huckaberries when once I dun drove up ta Idawhoo.

An when I dun seen dat a bar does definutly shit in da woods?

I done knowd da troof rot darr! Dun sed, Unko Trayee
